If you like learning...

As I am currently studying to be a professional librarian through Charles Sturt University I find out some very interesting things through the course, but something I was reminded of via a CSU forum just recently is that ALIA (Australian Library and Information Association) actually has an online professional development scheme for anyone that might be interested. When I finish this course I think I am going to become an ALIA member because it seems to keep you up to speed with things going on through the library profession of Australia, although there are fees to being a member so that is something to be pondered. But because they are a recognised library association of Australian if they are doing a professional development scheme its probably current, reputable, informative, interesting and not to mention good for the resume. These are the links...

History is interesting

This photo, or if the photo doesn't work, the link that is below it, is an image from the Nebraska images databases and shows the Carnegie Library and United Presbyterian Church of Nebraska in 1909. Interesting that these two buildings or sections of society you could say were considered so important and held so high that they were established so early in the building of Nebraska.

P.S. I tried to add the photo but the upload wouldn't work for some reason. Oh well.

Ironic, and very timely...

I found it quite ironic and very timely that "23 things" started at BCC around this time, because I have been studying a subject called "IT in Libraries", through the BAS(LIM) Library qualification course that I am studying through Charles Sturt University, of which I have been studying many of these technologies. For instance the modules titles surround topics such as, "Web 2.0, Library 2.0, Digital Libraries, Blogs, Wikis, Social Networking, eBooks, Podcasting, Digitisation, Digital photos and videos, Library Management Systems, Virtual Reference, Semantic Web and Standards and Interoperability".

The "23 things" seems very exciting to me since I have the privelege to be employed within BCC libraries and study at CSU university on the same topics it allows me to experience these topics from different perspectives which makes it very interesting and I think there is a lot of potential to what BCC could do with the training that "23 things" offers its employees.
